What is this bill and why is it fascist?

• HR 35, sponsored by Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ-6)

• S 512, sponsored by Ted Cruz (R-TX)

This particular bill would add additional penalties to migrants who attempt to avoid capture by Border Patrol or ICE via vehicle & would ban anyone from applying for citizenship who was found guilty of the charges in this law.

Now is when I would usually go into the finer details, but frankly, I’m going to defer to the latest post from journalist Jonathan Cohn. He’s done an amazing job summarizing this bill and is an excellent person for everyone to follow.

As for what makes it fascist, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center has outlined all the ways this act is useless, duplicative of laws that already exist, and only exists as a way to punish undocumented immigrants with greater penalties than would be given to others who break similar laws.
